OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT)

OCT is a nondestructive technique that used infrared light to generate 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional images.

The setup as seen in the figure above consists of a low coherence infra red light source. It it generated by a super luminescent diode. The light is split with the help of a beamsplitter into a 90:10 ratio and is passed along to the reference and the sample arms.  The recombined light is then used to generate an image.

OCT used in scanning mode can generate 3 Dimensional images with a depth up to 2 mm. A deep tissue OCT can provide a depth of up to 4 mm.
